Neil Redfearn praises Victor Orta, believes Leeds United should be promoted

Neil Redfearn has been discussing Leeds United’s promotion hopes and is of the belief that his former club deserve to get promoted should the Championship season not be finished.

Leeds are currently top of the Championship and have been in a commanding position for much of the season.

However, the league was recently suspended due to the current global health crisis and there are continuing doubts over the ability to play the remaining games of the current season.

But Redfearn, who managed Leeds United during the Massimo Cellino era, that Leeds deserve to go up, along with second-placed West Brom.

“I like to think they’ll go up. They are up there on merit. They are top of the league for a reason. They’ve played outstanding football this season. They’ve been brilliant. I think it would be good for the Premier League if Leeds did go up. Obviously them and West Brom have been the top two sides throughout the season so I think it’s only fair they get promoted.”

He also had special praise for the Leeds United director of football Victor Orta.

“Leeds United have been fantastic this season. I think Victor Orta has recruited brilliantly, if you look at some of the players that have been brought in.”

Orta has been instrumental in Leeds’ success, helping to bring in the likes of Helder Costa, Ilan Meslier, and standout performer Ben White for the 2019-20 season.

Clearly, the Spaniard has done a great job helping to build a team capable of promotion at Elland Road and Redfearn was happy to praise him for that role.

Considering some of the players Cellino and his former director of football Nicolas Salerno handed Redfearn during his time at Elland Road, there is no wonder he is so complimentary of the work undertaken by Orta.
