Neil Lennon urged Celtic star Mohamed Elyounoussi to find consistency after two-goal display

Celtic manager Neil Lennon raved about Celtic star Mohamed Elyounoussi after his performance on Thursday night, but has thrown down the gauntlet that he wants him to find that level of consistency now.

The Bhoys recorded a 2-2 draw away to French club Lille, which on paper was a decent result in the context of their Europa League group.

But there will be a tinge of disappointment, as the Scottish giants let a two-goal lead slip.

Elyounoussi provided the first-half heroics with his two goals, the first a stunning effort from outside the box that he curled into the far corner past a helpless goalkeeper and it was a sign of the confidence he played with on the night.

The 26-year-old then tucked in a cross from Jeremie Frimpong to double Celtic’s advantage, before Lille earned a point in the second-half with goals from Zeki Celik and Jonathan Ikone.

Lennon singled out Elyounoussi with his post-match comments and was majorly impressed with his display:

“It’s the best I’ve seen him. He was strong and fit. He scored two beauties and was tremendous. He just has to get that consistency now. He was a class player tonight and a real catalyst for a very strong performance,”

TBR’s View:

Elyounoussi, 26, is a skilful attacker that rejoined Celtic in the summer on a season-long loan and he’s shown during the times at Parkhead that he’s got incredible individual skill.

The left-winger was so dangerous cutting inside against Lille and it may be the turning point in his Bhoys career.

He’s scored seven goals in his opening 16 appearances of the season, but he can be guilty of drifting through games at times and he’s now got to start impacting matches more regally with his talent.
