Celtic manager Neil Lennon has explained that he hopes Lewis Morgan takes massive confidence from his performance on Thursday night against Rennes.
The Scottish champions secured top spot in the Europa League group with one match left to play, as they beat French side Rennes 3-1 at home.
Morgan opened the scoring for the Bhoys in the 24th minute, while Ryan Christie and Mikey Johnston also netted for the hosts.
Lennon made four changes to his side for the European fixture to freshen it up and the size of his squad proved itself.
Morgan was one of the players promoted to the XI and he took his goalscoring chance with real calmness.
The attacker now has two goals in 14 games across all competitions this season and took the most of his opportunity against Rennes.
He played in a central role leading the line for Celtic and should be knocking on the door for more chances.
“Lewis Morgan comes in and does a fantastic job tonight for us. We knew he was capable of that, scored a great goal and set the tempo for the rest of the team. He can be delighted with his performance,”
“He just has to believe in himself a little bit more because we believe in him. Physically he’s a specimen, he’s a great athlete, he’s got good pace and good with both feet.
“He’s come up trumps tonight and I hope that gives him the real shot in the arm that he deserves.”
TBR’s View:
Morgan has been on the fringes of the Celtic squad this season, which made his display on Thursday night even more impressive.
The Scottish forward has only started six matches this campaign across all competitions and has to be patient due to the amount of strength in the squad.
But he does have the versatility to play as a striker or a winger and a hectic December fixture list could play into his hands.
The 23-year-old is still a youngster that has a lot of potential to fulfil and he should take colossal confidence from Lennon’s comments about him.
