Neil Lennon hails defender Jonjoe Kenny for ‘excellent’ Celtic debut

Celtic manager Neil Lennon singled out defender Jonjoe Kenny for his debut performance on Tuesday night in a 4-0 win away to Kilmarnock.

The Bhoys put in a much-needed dominant display to beat Kilmarnock, which they will hope can spark a strong run of results.

Lennon’s side picked up just six points in six league games during January and the midweek result still means they are 20 points adrift of table toppers Rangers.

But there were some real encouraging signs at Kilmarnock.

Club captain Scott Brown marked his return to the XI with a headed goal, plus there were goals in the second-half from Odsonne Edouard (two) and Albian Ajeti.

Lennon felt that on-loan Everton star Kenny made a real positive impact on his first appearance for the Scottish giants.

“I thought he was excellent. Considering he’s trained with us for one day, I thought he had a superb game,”

“Defended well, got forward every opportunity and looked like he could play the position.”

Premier League side Everton decided to grant Kenny’s exit on loan on deadline day, with Celtic the team to benefit from that.

The 23-year-old right-back was thrown straight into the starting XI for Tuesday night’s game and made it look effortless in unfamiliar surroundings.

With Jeremie Frimpong leaving during the January window after being sold to Bayer Leverkusen, Celtic have done a great job to bring in attack-minded full-back Kenny on loan to replace him.
