Neil Lennon hails Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi

Celtic manager Neil Lennon raved about attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi following his performance in Europe on Thursday night.

The Bhoys produced a polished display to beat Romanian outfit CFR Cluj 2-0 at Parkhead, with Odsonne Edouard opening the scoring with his first-half header.

Elyounoussi made sure of three points in the Europa League group stage match, as his second-half strike from the edge of the box deflected into the back of the net.

The 25-year-old has had to be fairly patient since he joined the Scottish champions on loan from Southampton, but he was rewarded on Thursday night.

He completed 90 minutes as the right-winger against Cluj and got on the scoresheet, but his overall work-rate and directness when in possession got fans off their seats.

Lennon had some kind words for the Norway international following his performance.

“He (Elyounoussi) was brilliant last night. He really took the game to Cluj and showed his experience,”

TBR’s View:

Elyounoussi came good for Celtic in the Europa League and it’s perhaps a competition that he can thrive in moving forward.

The dazzling wide player has experience in European football from previous spells with Molde and FC Basel, which is why it was no surprise he turned up against Cluj.

Lennon does have plenty of competition in the wide attacking areas in his squad, but Elyounoussi has done himself no harm with his latest display and the best could still be just around the corner for him.

He’s played just one league match so far for the Bhoys and his aim has to be to try back into contention on a more frequent basis.
