Neil Lennon hails ‘brilliant’ 20-year-old Newcastle player in loss to Dortmund

Newcastle United fell to their second Champions League defeat of the campaign as Borussia Dortmund ran out 2-0 winners in Germany on Tuesday night.

Despite the Magpies’ defeat, there were positives for Eddie Howe to take home, including another impressive display from Valentino Livramento.

The 20-year-old Newcastle defender has gone from strength to strength for the Magpies this season.

And pundit Neil Lennon loved what he saw from Livramento in the match, following a great cross for Joelinton.

The Magpies full-back whipped in a brilliant cross from the right that his teammate charged in to meet.

Although Joelinton got in ahead of his marker, he ended up heading wide from four yards out.

“It is a golden opportunity,” Lennon said on BBC Radio 5 Live, via the .

“What a ball from Tino Livramento, it is right on the money and all Joelinton has to do is get it on target.

“It is absolutely brilliant play by Newcastle.”

Although the Magpies lost, it’s clear to see that they’ve put together a superb team and, as time goes on, they’ll build something wonderful.

Livramento looks like he could go on to become a big part of Newcastle’s future successes, showing world-class quality at such a young age.

Prior to the Carabao Cup win over Manchester City, the Newcastle summer signing had made just two Premier League outings off the bench, for a total of 24 minutes.

Livramento didn’t disappoint in the slightest, keeping £100million star Jack Grealish quiet and making an excellent stop against Matheus Nunes late on.

Since then, he has kicked on, impressing pretty much every time he has got significant game time on the pitch.

Livramento has played right-wing, right-back and is now impressing at left-back.

Not only does he have amazing talent and potential, but his versatility will also help him become a major asset for Howe.
