‘Negotiations will take place this week’: Romano shares update which could be bad news for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Barcelona’s Memphis Depay in recent months.
In December, claimed Spurs were one of several Premier League sides eyeing the Netherlands international.
As well as Tottenham, the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham had apparently spoken to Depay’s camp.

However, Fabrizio Romano poured cold water on links between Depay and the likes of Spurs later on in the month.
“At the moment, from what I’m told, there are many rumours but nothing concrete,” he told .
“Not with Tottenham or with any other club. Everything is so calm around Memphis Depay.”
Now, it looks as though Atletico Madrid have decided to steal a march on the reported Tottenham target.
Romano took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to say Los Colchoneros had pencilled in talks over Depay this week.
Tottenham have been linked with reinforcements up front, in wake of injuries to the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min this season.
Admittedly, the speculation linking Spurs with Depay hasn’t been particularly strong.
Nonetheless, Depay is a superb player who looks to be available for a bargain fee this month.
His contract runs out at the end of the season, and Barca are apparently desperate to offload him.
Depay wouldn’t have been a bad shout as a back-up or rotation player for Tottenham.

He has rebuilt his career since leaving the Premier League after his Manchester United spell.
Depay is a ‘‘ forward who may have well been eager to prove himself again in the English top flight.
However, it looks as though he may end up staying in La Liga past January.
