‘Needs to move’: Pundit says £5m Tottenham man only has himself to blame, not Nuno or Mourinho

Trevor Sinclair has claimed that Dele Alli has to leave Tottenham in January to salvage his career in the Premier League.

The Englishman, under Mauricio Pochettino, was among the best players in the country. Signed from MK Dons for just £5 million in 2015 (), Alli’s value shot up quickly, but it has come down considerably over the last year or so.

Jose Mourinho had enough of him and pushed him out of the side. Nuno Espirito Santo gave him an opportunity at the start of the campaign, but it looks like he wants the Englishman gone now as well.

Alli is in a very difficult position, but Sinclair believes that he can only blame himself after two different managers – Nuno and Mourinho – felt that their side is better off without him.

Sinclair: Dele Alli needs to leave Tottenham

The 48-year-old said on : “I’ve been a huge fan of Dele Alli’s. I remember last year when he said he was dropping out of these commercial deals and wants to concentre on his football, get his head down and get back to being the Dele Alli we all loved and enjoyed watching.

“It’s not quite materialised and he has been through a few different managers. You can’t point the finger and say it is the manager. There’s only one common denominator, it’s got to be the footballer.

“I think he needs to move. I wouldn’t say he would be worth a lot of money, maybe £20million or £30million because he hasn’t done it for so long. When you go to another club, you have to earn that right again. It’s that fear of failure, wanting to be a winner.”

Nuno has left Alli as an unused substitute in each of Tottenham’s last three Premier League games and he dropped him from the squad for the midweek cup clash against Burnley.

We don’t know what the Spurs boss has in his mind, but looking in from the outside, it looks like the Englishman is surplus to requirements. That’s not ideal at all, especially as he’s entering the prime years of his career.

The best thing for all parties would be for Alli to leave the club in January. Daniel Levy will not make the money he could have a few years ago, but Tottenham are in a position where they’ll have to take what they can get and move on.
