‘Needs to be starting for us’: Some Manchester City fans wowed by star’s ‘unreal’ display for his country

Joao Cancelo starred during Portugal’s win over Israel on Wednesday night – and some Manchester City fans on Twitter were extremely impressed by their star’s display.

Man City defender Cancelo showed what he brings going forward in a 4-0 victory.

As well as assisting one goal with a perfect cross, the right-back got on the scoresheet himself, too.

The 27-year-old right-back cut inside before unleashing a low finish with his weaker left foot. Fortunately, the versatile full-back is comfortable playing with both feet.

Cancelo has just enjoyed a fine individual season, winning both the Premier League and League Cup.

He was instrumental for months of the campaign, but it’s worth noting he did drop off a little towards the end to slip out of Pep Guardiola’s best XI.

Manchester City fans love Joao Cancelo

A selection of Man City supporters on social were amazed by Cancelo’s midweek international display. Interestingly, a few were even saying it proves he should be a nailed-on starter at the Etihad Stadium.

He constantly swapped between left-back and right-back this campaign, but there was a time he was guaranteed to start regardless.

It’s difficult for him though competing with the likes of Kyle Walker and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Guardiola has so much defensive ability in his squad.

The speedster will hope to force his way back into the City XI next season, so a strong Euro 2020 will help. He’s certainly got the talent.

His Portugal side are a team to watch out for this summer at the Euros.
