Neco Williams posts Instagram message after new deal, first-team duo and Ian Rush respond
Neco Williams was rewarded for his efforts last season with a new Liverpool contract which he penned yesterday,
The 19-year-old is currently in Austria getting ready for next season and has committed his long-term future to the football club.
Williams made 11 first-team appearances last season as Liverpool claimed the Premier League title for the first time since its formation in 1992.
On the form of last season, the Wales under-19 international looks like he could act as a solid backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold, whilst the fact he can play left-back will also help his case.
Following the announcement, he took to Instagram and current captain Jordan Henderson, exciting talent Rhian Brewster and club legend Ian Rush were all quick to congratulate him.
Boss Jurgen Klopp has placed a lot of trust in his academy players and Williams enjoyed some good performances last season.
He will need to keep working hard to keep Alexander-Arnold on his toes but he is more than capable of stepping in if called upon.
Williams has shown he is capable and the challenge for him now is to continue improving and asking questions of those above him in the pecking order.
With Liverpool set to compete in four competitions again next season, it seems likely that he will play plenty of football still.
A loan spell doesn’t seem like an option, with Klopp likely to utilise his younger talents as substitutes for the first-team more often than not.
Getting Williams tied to a new deal is a positive step in the right direction and highlights the great work being done at the club’s academy.
