Neal Maupay makes another claim about Tottenham Hotspur’s players and fans

Brentford striker Neal Maupay has hit out at the Tottenham Hotspur players following his darts celebration back in January.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were able to take all three points from the game against the Bees at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But it was the Frenchman’s antics in the game’s opener which stole the headlines as he mimicked James Maddison’s celebration.

Neal Maupay copies Maddison’s celebration

After providing the visiting side the lead, it took a few by surprise when Neal Maupay decided to copy Maddison’s celebration in front of the south stand.

It was the Lilywhites who had the last laugh, though. And the Spurs players made sure they rubbed it in Maupay’s face when their three goals were scored.

The 27-year-old has since been speaking to about his antics and has taken a fresh dig at the Spurs players.

Claiming he had the Tottenham players ‘on toast’, Maupay said: ‘Believe it or not, that wasn’t planned. So I scored and as I was running towards the corner flag I just thought, ‘you know what, I’m going to throw a dart.’

When asked if it was because of Maddison, he said: ‘Yeah. That’s how he celebrates his goal, right? But then apparently you’re not allowed to throw a dart. It’s only him now that can do it because of the way he got offended. So it was quite funny.’

‘But at their place, in front of their fans, it got all their players raging…’

‘Maddison posted me on his Instagram after and all them players on the pitch every time they scored they were running right at me. Just by throwing the dart, I got 11 players on toast. So it was just so easy.’

Spurs prevailed

Maupay seems incredibly proud of his antics despite finding himself on the losing side.

He may well have riled up the Spurs players that evening, however, perhaps that was a big factor behind their comeback after his goal.

Postecoglou’s side came out firing in that second half with a point seemingly to prove.

But that hasn’t stopped Maupay from continuing to act up with run ins with Kyle Walker and even West Ham coach Kevin Nolan since.

It is clear the Frenchman has a taste for winding up his opposition, but it is often backfiring on him as Brentford continue to battle relegation.

Perhaps that game in N17 should have been the warning for Maupay to cut out his wind-up merchant persona and focus on the game.

However, it seems to be something which the Frenchman enjoys going off this latest interview.
