Natural finisher Bonne is worth the low-cost risk for Leeds United

Leeds United have been linked with non-league striker Macauley Bonne this week.

, high-flying Championship quartet Norwich City, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Leeds will scrap it out for Leyton Orient striker Bonne.

This is an intriguing transfer story, considering the step up from the National League to the Championship.

There will be a sizeable jump for Bonne between scoring goals in non-league football and replicating his form in the second tier.

But Bonne’s main attribute is his natural finishing ability and this could mean he is a risk worth taking for the Whites.

The 23-year-old is the joint top scorer in the National League this season with his tally of 15 league goals propelling Leyton Orient to the top of the division.

And this is not just a one-off for the Colchester United academy graduate. He netted 25 goals in 52 games in his debut season with the O’s last term.

The two cap Zimbabwe international is not particularly tall and physical, nor is he lightning quick.

But he has a knack of getting himself into the right place at the right time and when he gets presented with an opportunity, he usually takes it.

Leeds scouts should be watching Bonne as he would probably be a low-cost signing who could be a stroke of genius.

Having already poached Sam Dalby from Leyton Orient, Leeds should return to East London to take Bonne up to Elland Road.
