that he is intent on remaining the manager of Scotland beyond the end of Euro 2021 – amid links to the currently vacant Celtic job, after Neil Lennon confirmed his resignation last Wednesday.
Lennon chose to leave with Rangers just seven points away from winning the Scottish Premiership title – Steven Gerrard’s first bit of silverware since taking over at Ibrox in 2018. The likes of Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard and others have been linked.
Clarke has stated in the past that he is against taking a job at either Celtic or Rangers due to the treatment the managers are subjected to. He is contracted at Scotland until the summer of 2022, after the World Cup takes place.
Asked if he would consider replacing Lennon at Parkhead, Scotland manager Clarke ruled out any chance of moving to Celtic – given he is set to take charge of Scotland in potentially two major tournaments over the course of the next 18 months.
“I’ll be going on a long holiday after the Euros,” , when asked about the Celtic job. “And I’m contracted with Scotland until 2022 when I’ll hopefully be taking us to the World Cup in Qatar.”

But it is clear he does not want the role. Having only managed once in the Scottish Premiership, the 57-year-old won 40 of his 79 matches in charge of Kilmarnock and is considered one of Killie’s best ever managers – which saw him linked with Rangers.
He remains in charge of Scotland and it is clear that if he remains in the job until the summer of 2022 at Scotland, he may even extend his deal with the national team. While a good appointment, Celtic need to consider someone else.
