National media hails ‘excellent’ Tottenham star after performance for his country

Tottenham star Joe Rodon received an 8/10 rating from national media for his Wales performance on Wednesday night.

Spurs defender Rodon, 23, was in action yesterday for his country.

The centre-back started during Wales’ 3-0 defeat away to World Cup champions France in the international friendly, and the Welsh were up against it after Neco Williams was sent off in the 25th minute.

Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele were the French goalscores.

Despite the loss, it was good preparation against elite opposition for Wales, as they build up to this summer’s imminent Euro 2020 competition.

Rodon appears to have nailed down his starting position in the Wales XI, which is great news for his club.

The centre-half played just 14 Spurs games during his debut season with the north London club, but there is no doubt he’s a huge talent with massive potential.

He earned an 8/10 rating from Wales Online for his France display.

“Marking Mbappe has to be one of the hardest tests in world football and Rodon performed well. Played a lovely diagonal over-the-top ball to [Daniel] James in the first half, showcasing his passing ability. Found it increasingly difficult as the game wore on and France’s extra man told, but was excellent on the whole,” wrote .

Joe Rodon someone to watch out for next season at Tottenham

Rodon has been eased into life at Spurs.

It’s mad to think he’s only played 12 games in the Premier League so far, and that doesn’t look the case when he puts a Wales jersey on.

As well as being strong defensively with his power and aggression, he looks a leader on the pitch.

He’s someone that going into next year should be hoping to really break into the Spurs XI.

The centre-back area of the pitch right now seems quite open at Spurs. For Rodon, he should aiming to impress at Euro 2020 to aid his club ambitions.
