‘Nasty’… Brendan Rodgers delivers double injury update after Celtic beat Hibs
Celtic’s win over Hibs last night ends Brendan Rodgers’ winless run over the Edinburgh club at Easter Road.
But more importantly, it extends Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to three points which puts pressure on Rangers to win their game in hand over Ross County next Wednesday.
An early Adam Idah penalty put the Hoops 1-0 up in the first five minutes but Hibs fought back in the second-half to equalise through a Dylan Levitt 60th-minute piledriver.
However, Idah stepped up once again in the final minute to dispatch his second penalty of the game to seal all three points for the Parkhead side.
Whilst the win was welcomed, it came at a cost. Alistair Johnston was stretchered off after a clash of heads and Stephen Welsh was subbed in the second half and was spotted hobbling off.
Rodgers was asked about both players post-match as the Celtic manager laments the possibility of losing another two defenders to injury.
On Alistair Johnston Rodgers said [], “Yeah, it was a nasty one for him. I think he’s gone to the hospital. So I’ll find out a wee bit more later.”
And when asked about Stephen Welsh, the Celtic manager continued, “He felt tight on his hamstring. So we’ll have to see that with the medical team tomorrow.”

Celtic can ill-afford to have any more players on the treatment table. Rodgers has had a horrific run of luck with injuries this season and could face the prospect of having another two defenders out for the visit of St Mirren.
With Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor both out with mid-term injuries, Rodgers faces the prospect of playing an in-form St Mirren side with a patchwork back four.
However, the most important thing was that Celtic pick another three vital points in the race for the Scottish Premiership.
