Mowbray reacts to Brereton Diaz reports amid Leeds interest
Leeds’ hopes of signing Ben Brereton Diaz appear to have received a boost with Tony Mowbray that he would never stand in the striker’s way of moving to the Premier League should the chance present itself.
It was reported at the weekend that Marcelo Bielsa was monitoring the 22-year-old. In fact, it was suggested that the Whites were ‘desperate’ to land a new forward during the January transfer window.
Brereton Diaz has scored 17 goals in the Championship this season. He has also established himself as an international for Chile.

Understandably, Blackburn want a significant sum for the youngster. It was claimed that Rovers want £25 million for the former Nottingham Forest man. The likes of Brighton and Sevilla are also said to be admirers.
Obviously, that is a huge price for a club to pay in the January window, particularly given that he is yet to play at a higher level in the Championship. It is also, by some way, his best campaign to date.
But perhaps, the likes of Leeds and his other admirers have received a potential boost. Mowbray was asked about his future, and he hinted that he does not plan to dig his heels in to keep him.
‘I’d never stop him’
“The owners will decide what they want to do, their business in India has suffered a little bit,” .
“Ben Brereton Diaz is doing amazingly well. I was a footballer for 20 years and when you’re doing well sometimes you have to strike.
“If he can get a top, top move, earn the money and be a Premier League striker I’d never stop him doing that but I would hope he stays with us and sees the season out at the very least and keep the goals coming of course.”
Obviously, Blackburn are not going to let him leave on the cheap. But clearly, if a club makes a reasonable offer, they stand a chance of getting a deal done.
Brereton Diaz will now know that Mowbray is not planning to make life difficult for him. So if a club goes close to the asking price, and Brereton Diaz wants to go, perhaps the door will be left open.
