Mowbray makes worrying claim about Everton loanee Jarrad Branthwaite

Tony Mowbray that he does not believe that Jarrad Branthwaite will play for the club again this season after the Everton loanee suffered an ankle injury in training.

It has been an interesting time for the 18-year-old at Ewood Park. He proved to be a regular starter during the early stages of his spell with Rovers.

However, he has only featured in one game since the start of March. And it, unfortunately, seems that he is not going to get a chance to add to that tally.

The Toffees teenager missed the clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday. And Mowbray has now suggested that he could be sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

“Jarrad rolled his ankle pretty badly in training and I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again this season,” .

“I think he’s got ligament damage in his ankle without getting a full report, but that’s what it looks like.”

It is a huge shame for Branthwaite to suffer such a serious injury. But if he is out for the final three games of the campaign, his focus will be on making it back at some stage in pre-season.

Based on his time with Blackburn, it would appear that Branthwaite may yet benefit from another loan spell in the Championship next year.

But after including him on the bench on a few occasions in the Premier League this term, Carlo Ancelotti may perhaps want to take another look at Branthwaite before deciding what would be best for the centre-back.
