‘MOTM for me’, ‘different class’: Some Wolves fans blown away by £100k-a-week ace’s display last night
A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have waxed lyrical about Joao Moutinho’s display at Molineux in their Premier League draw on Monday.
The 34-year-old was one of Wolves’ better performers on the night as Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with Southampton.
With Conor Coady absent from the line-up for the first time in 121 fixtures, Nuno changed the shape of his back line, opting for a 4-3-3 formation.

Though Saints were initially caught out by this change in shape, they went on to open the scoring, Theo Walcott netting in the 58th minute.
However, Wolves battled back and, on 75 minutes, substitute Pedro Neto equalised following a Raul Jimenez shot striking the foot of the post.
Moutinho, back in the starting XI, looked the most comfortable with his role in a midfield three and almost created the opener.
The Portugal international grew into the game as he helped pull the strings and dictate the play, a welcome return to form after some average performances.
Here is what some Wolves fans were saying on social media about the ace:
Best game from Moutinho for a long time I thought. There’s still some punch in that 🍷 yet

Thought Moutinho and Traore justified their starts in the end, both played a key role in us gaining a point. Still nowhere near our best but I think we’ll get there in time. Coady was a huge loss though

Leaving Joao Moutinho on the bench should be illegal.
Hate to say it but last seasons team would’ve beat them today.— Jack Jones (@jackjones90)
Decent entertainment 2nd half. Something still not clicking. But 9th in a v tight league. And lets be honest something of an ‘unreal’ season. Its okay. Food for thought. Moutinho was great in a 3 in midfield.

Moutinho was excellent

✅Moutinho in a three works!
✅Neto must start the next game!
✅5 at the back is more secure!
✅We had 20 attempts on goal tonight which is the most in the league since at least January!🤔Now if you can make that work please, Nuno!

Moutinho MOTM for me

Moutinho a different class on set pieces, we missed him versus Leicester
