Most touches, two key passes: 29-year-old Tottenham player was quietly outstanding in Leeds United win
Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies was quietly outstanding in their win over Leeds United yesterday.
The 29-year-old has had a mixed time this season as he’s struggled to find consistency in the Spurs backline.
Davies was a standout performer under Antonio Conte last season and was a pivotal part of the side’s late push into the Champions League places.
However, he’s put in some shaky performances over the course of the season along with the rest of Conte’s defence.
But in a game littered with poor defending yesterday, Davies impressed on the left-hand side of the Spurs back-three.
Davies quietly outstanding in Leeds win
Spurs secured a 4-3 win thanks to a quickfire brace from Rodrigo Betnancur in the final 10 minutes of yesterday’s game.
But judging by the statistics alone, Davies quietly enjoyed one of his best performances of the season.
He had the most touches out of any player on the pitch in north London yesterday, .
The Welshman took 88 touches in the game and made two key passes, which was the same amount as Harry Kane.
Davies also completed 88.7 percent of his passes on the day, while chipping in with a goal.
He received the fourth-highest rating from WhoScored out of the entire Spurs side, with a rating of 7.79.
The Spurs defender has been battling it out with Clement Lenglet for the left-sided centre-back role in Conte’s defence this season.
But in the absence of Cristian Romero, both players started yesterday’s game.
Spurs defended quite poorly on the day and shipped three avoidable goals to Jesse Marsch’s side. But Davies was certainly a bright spark in the backline and contributed massively in terms of Tottenham’s attacking threat.
The former Swansea man will now head to the World Cup with Wales and will be hoping to build on a much-improved display.
