Morgan Rogers delivers Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio verdicts after Aston Villa’s 2-1 win vs Tottenham

Morgan Rogers, Marcus Rashford and Marcos Asensio looked like a frightening front three during Aston Villa’s 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Jacob Ramsey praised Rashford and Asensio as the pair looked lively during their debuts against Spurs, looking like they had played in Villa shirts for a long time.

The Aston Villa trident in particular were constantly trying to link up with each other, with Rogers and Asensio especially gelling with each other on the pitch.

Tottenham made several last-ditch interceptions and tackles to keep both of Unai Emery’s new signings from getting on the scoresheet.

Rogers was Aston Villa’s standout performer against Tottenham but based on Rashford and Asensio’s respective cameos, it seems like the former Manchester City midfielder now has two new teammates who could help him shoulder the burden of his side’s attack.

Morgan Rogers says “it’s crazy” playing with Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio after Aston Villa vs Tottenham

Gary Lineker hailed Rashford’s showing against Tottenham as he showed signs of returning back to his old self.

Meanwhile, Asensio’s debut drew praise from several fans as well, with the Spaniard seemingly brimming with confidence as soon as crossed the white lines.

After Aston Villa beat Tottenham, Rogers expressed his delight about playing with Rashford and Asensio as well.

Rogers said via Optus Sport: “Yeah, it’s crazy really because probably about three, four years ago, I was watching them compete at the highest level when I was playing in League One and the Championship so to be playing with them and being with them every day and trying to be a sponge just to see what they’re about and show their capabilities is really good.”

“For the squad, it pushes everyone really, competition for places, everyone can kind of play in different positions so you’re on your toes, you’re trying to improve, you’re trying to get better and it’s just about pushing each other.”

“And to compete on all fronts like we’re trying to do in all competitions, we’ve got to be strong, we know there’s going to be injuries, niggles and stuff along the way and having that big squad and that good squad, there’s good backup in places and it’s good for us and we can push and to have them two and others as well is very important.”

Asensio also seems to have done the same, with Emery lauding the former Real Madrid winger as well as the Manchester United loanee after Aston Villa won against Tottenham.

Unai Emery said via journalist Jacob Tanswell: “Firstly, Lamare Bogarde played again. Consistency when we needed him. He helped us. Andres Garcia and [Donyell] Malen both playing in the idea we have.”

“With Rashford and Asensio, we watched their skill and how they helped us and will help us.”
