Moise Kean’s Everton goal vow isn’t looking so hot with three games to go

Never make promises you can’t keep, especially ones that seem easy to follow through on.

Unfortunately for Everton’s Moise Kean, he appears destined to fail on something he said upon signing for the club last summer.

Hopes were high for the Italian teenager when he arrived from Juventus for a £27.5 million fee (), but fans were perplexed at the lowly goal target he set himself.

“I will score seven as a minimum,” he said, .

Somewhat low, most Everton supporters thought – but no bother. He would surely score the seven and look good exceeding it, no?

With just three games to go until the end of the 2019/20 season, struggling Kean has scored just once for the Toffees – back in January against Newcastle United.

To get to seven, Kean would now have to hit six in the last three matches to hit his target.

You’d be a brave man to bet he’ll do it.

TBR View – Kean has had it tough

While Kean has certainly made mistakes in his first season at Goodison, it has undoubtedly been tough for him.

People forget how young he is and arriving from Italy without a strong grasp of the English language surely can’t be easy.

He was no doubt rattled a bit by Duncan Ferguson hooking him that time against Manchester United at Old Trafford after only just putting him on.

Football is such a confidence game, especially for strikers, and Kean just hasn’t looked comfortable in his first year and that momentum was never built.

The form of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t helped his cause either, but hopefully next season he’ll rediscover his mojo and show everyone what he’s about, like he did briefly for Juventus.

And hopefully, he’ll remember that setting targets publicly is probably not the best idea…
