Mohamed Salah equals Wayne Rooney record as he helps Liverpool beat Manchester City
Liverpool beat Manchester City to put one hand on the Premier League title as Mohamed Salah once again produced the goods for the Reds and in doing so, drew level with a certain Wayne Rooney.
Salah set up the opening goal for Cody Gakpo before scoring from the penalty spot himself to ensure the Reds won 2-0 at Anfield.
For Salah, who could be in his last season as a Liverpool player, his form is proving influential in helping Liverpool push towards a second Premier League title.
The Egyptian is making a habit of either scoring or assisting in every game and he’s already on 13 goals and 11 assists for the season.
And in typical Mo Salah fashion, his double act against City has now seen him go level with one Wayne Rooney Premier League record.

Mo Salah now level with Wayne Rooney for games with a goal and assist
Scoring or assisting in a Premier League game is hard enough, so to manage to consistently do both is the sign of a special player.
With his goal and assist against City, Salah has now scored or set a goal up in 36 separate Premier League games, a record only matched by Man United legend, Wayne Rooney.
Salah, though, still has some way to go before catching Rooney in terms of overall goals and assists in the Premier League.
Rooney managed 208 goals to Salah’s 168 (so far), while Rooney also clocked up 108 assists compared to Salah’s 75.
Of course, Rooney did make 491 PL appearances, while Salah is yet to break the 300 mark on that front.
Mohamed Salah | Wayne Rooney | |
PL goals | 168 | 208 |
PL assists | 76 | 108 |
PL appearances | 275 | 491 |
Salah, then, if he’d have matched Rooney’s longevity, would not be far off or could even be ahead of the former England man.
When all is said and done, Salah will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.
