Mitrovic is not right man to provide the backup for Kane that Tottenham need

Tottenham are considering a summer swoop for Fulham talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic,

They that now Mauricio Pochettino appears unlikely to get the Manchester United job, after the success of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, or go in at Real Madrid, where Zinedine Zidane has been reappointed; Daniel Levy is ready to back his manager with a summer of investment.

A striker is high up on the list of priorities and Mitrovic, who joined Fulham last summer in a deal the was worth £22m, has been considered.

There are doubts over whether the Serbian hitman would come knowing he would be behind Harry Kane in the pecking order and Tottenham would be wise to act on those concerns and abort their interest.

As good as Mitrovic has been this season for a struggling Cottagers team, he is simply too combustible a personality for Tottenham to have sitting on the bench.

Playing behind Kane is so frustrating for a striker at Tottenham because they know if the England captain is fit, he plays. That happens to the extent that he is frequently rushed back from injury.

Mitrovic is not going to come cheap – the parachute payments from their likely relegation from the top flight mean that Fulham will not be short on cash – and won’t enjoy being behind Kane in the pecking order.
