‘Misjudgement’… Jorg Schmadtke suggests he told Liverpool not to sign ‘unbelievable’ 23-year-old player
Jorg Schmadtke has admitted that he didn’t want Liverpool to sign Dominik Szoboszlai last summer because of his price tag.
The Reds had a very good summer window, didn’t they? They made some fantastic deals, and Schmadtke was the man calling the shots at the time. He has now made an admission about Liverpool‘s move for Szoboszlai.

Jorg Schmadtke suggests he didn’t want Liverpool to sign Dominik Szoboszlai
Jorg Schma𝄹dtke was Liverpool’s sporting director in the last two transfer windows.
The 59-year-old 𓆉was relieved of his duties at the end of the January window, but he was responsible for almost all the deals the Reds pulled off for this season.
Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig in the summer for a fee of £6﷽0 million (). The Hungarian became the club’s fourth-most expensive player in history after Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.
Szoboszl❀ai, branded as ‘‘ by Harvey Elliott, is a fan favourite at Anfield, and nobody is really talking about his price tag.
However, Schmadtke has now admitted that he wasn’t too keen to sign him last sum☂mer because he felt the midfielder was way too expensive.
He told : “Now in Liverpool, there was someone who cost €70 million, Szoboszlai, who we brought from Leipzig. Then I sa꧃id: It’s too expensive.
“From today’s perspective, that was a misjudgment on my p🦄art. The boy was an important Liverpool player from day one. He performed better than 🙈I would have expected him to.”

Szoboszlai has been a great signing
Dominik Szoboszlai has done really well for Liverpool since joining the club last summer.
The 23-year-old is a fantastic talent. He has been involved in nine goals already for the Reds and has shown that he has the potential to increase that tally in the coming months and years. He apparently always scores screamers in training.
£60 million definitely felt 📖like a lot of money in the summer, and although Szoboszlai is yet to justify that big figure, we feel he will as he progresses in the famous red shirt.
It will be interesting 🅷to see how many goals and assists Szoboszlai will end the s✱eason on in May.
