Mills fears Bielsa will leave Leeds if Championship promotion doesn’t come this season
Former Leeds United and England defender Danny Mills fears that Marcelo Bielsa will leave Elland Road this summer if he is unable to achieve promotion from the Championship this season,
The Whites are currently second in the table and involved in a three-horse race for promotion alongside Norwich City and Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.
It has been a long wait for promotion for Leeds but Mills is worried that if Bielsa is not able to break the hoodoo at the first time of asking this season, he will be poached.
He : “What he’s done is incredible, because it’s the same group of players [as last season]. Whatever happens this season, if they don’t get up, I fear either he’ll be poached or he’ll go – ‘okay, I tried and it didn’t quite work’.”

It’s almost impossible to predict what Bielsa might do because he’s that kind of character but he appears deeply committed to Leeds.
Being comfortable, accepted and given freedom to work is so important to Bielsa that he will also ask himself if it is worth risking that to go elsewhere just because they’ve just narrowly missed out on promotion.
Of course, it appears that Leeds are on course for promotion in any case – in which case Mills’ fears would be moot – but he shouldn’t worry too much about Bielsa leaving.
