Mikey Johnston’s stunner may have earned him a new Celtic role

Celtic may have a striker crisis on their hands after Odsonne Edouard limped off last night.

Edouard had to be substituted in the first-half, leaving Celtic with very few options up front.

With Leigh Griffiths taking an indefinite break from the game for personal reasons, Celtic now have no senior strikers available, should Edouard be out for a while.

But one teenager has staked a claim for a first-team spot after he was given a rare outing last night.

Mikey Johnston was brought on for Edouard and he scored a stunning goal from outside of the box to announce himself to Celtic fans.

And with Edouard possibly facing some time on the sidelines, Johnston could be set for a new role at Celtic.

Naturally a winger, the Scotland under-21 international might be Brendan Rodgers’ first choice as a striker if Edouard is sidelined.

And with a game against bottom club Dundee coming up this weekend, this is the perfect time for Johnston to keep his spot in the team.

With service from Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Ryan Christie, Johnston has the chance to get on the score sheet again and keep his spot in the team.
