Mikey Johnston and Celtic fans react as 24-year-old signs new deal overseas

Lewis Morgan has put pen to paper on an extended contract until 2023 with David Beckham’s Inter Miami side in the MLS after a fantastic first season with the newly-formed club – and both Celtic fans and Mikey Johnston have reacted on social media.

Morgan, 24, left Celtic on a permanent deal in January 2020 and has since starred for Miami – even though the pandemic halted the MLS for some time, affecting the season more so than on these shores given that it runs by a different schedule.

But that did not affect the Scotland international. Indeed, he has now clocked up 24 appearances for Miami – having a hand in 10 goals. The ex-Sunderland loanee scored five himself, and created five more and is now set to work under Phil Neville.

Neville has been handed the reigns as manager by his former United teammate Beckham, and one of his first moves is to tie Morgan down to a longer contract at the club. Morgan posted on Instagram after penning a deal until 2023.

Morgan caught the eye last season and his efforts were recognised – being awarded the club’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ title despite the side boasting the likes of Mexico ace Rodolfo Pizarro and big-name stars including Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi.

Miami have since added England international Ryan Shawcross to their ranks, and it is an exciting time for the new MLS side – which will begin it’s season in April. Johnston reacted to his Instagram post, while Celtic fans also responded.
