Mikel Merino reveals who his favourite Arsenal player of all time is after just signing for the Gunners

Mikel Arteta has finally got his man in Mikel Merino over the line at Arsenal ahead of Friday’s deadline.

It has not been the most exciting of transfer windows in the Premier League this summer, but Arsenal have operated well when it comes to adding quality.

Arteta had already seen Riccardo Calafiori added to his squad earlier in the summer but the Gunners were forced to wait for signing number two.

However, on Tuesday afternoon, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Mikel Merino who was involved in a team meeting where he addressed his new teammates.

And it seems as if Merino‘s love of Arsenal goes beyond just signing for the north London side this week.

The midfielder’s announcement was based around childhood images of the Spain international posing in his Arsenal kit.

Who Mikel Merino’s favourite all time Arsenal player is

There is still time for Edu Gaspar to add another player or two in the market with Arsenal eyeing a new forward to bolster their front line.

After hearing of the interest from north London, Merino made it clear he only wanted to sign for Arsenal after rejecting Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Arteta wanted Merino and, clearly, Merino wanted Arsenal as the Gunners now have another addition to what is already a strong midfield department.

Merino has not only been able to speak to his new teammates, but the Spain international has also been able to address the Arsenal fans.

Having been announced as a new Arsenal player, Merino participated in a Q&A session where he was asked about a number of topics.

And during the activity, he revealed that his favourite Arsenal player of all time what Thierry Henry.

The old photos of Merino wearing an Arsenal kit as a kid were from the 2004/05 season where Henry returned a seriously impressive 25 goals and 13 assists in the league alone.

What Mikel Merino said to his new Arsenal teammates

A big season is ahead of Arsenal as they finally look to overturn Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the table.

The past two seasons have seen the Gunners come mightily close to getting their hands on the title.

Now three seasons in on their title pursuit, the 2024/25 campaign feels like a really important one as another failure to land the crown could lead to some serious questions being asked around the club.

But having just joined as a new Arsenal player, Merino addressed his teammates with 36 games still to play this season.

“Thank you all for the warm welcome, I’m very happy to be here with all of you,” said Merino.

“I’m just excited for this season, hopefully we can keep doing big things as you guys are doing. Just thank you!”
