Mikel Arteta says whether Raheem Sterling will play for Arsenal vs Bolton in the League Cup
After some high-pressure away trips of late, Mikel Arteta now has four ties at the Emirates to navigate at Arsenal before the next international break.
Arsenal face Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup on Wednesday – a tie that used to be played in the Premier League.
The last time it was in the 2011/12 season, Arsenal won 3-0, Robin van Persie scored twice before being replaced by Marouane Chamakh and Alex Song scored the third – very different times.
Of course, given this a lower-priority cup competition for Arteta, the Arsenal manager will make changes against Bolton, and the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly should start.
Arsenal’s schedule has been incredibly demanding of late, and although Arteta will want to progress, he’ll also need to hand several players a rest.
Raheem Sterling ‘really hungry’ to take his opportunity vs Bolton
Since his arrival on deadline day, Raheem Sterling is yet to start a match for Arsenal – only appearing as a substitute.
However, it would be a big surprise if Arteta didn’t turn to the 29-year-old against Bolton, who could be crucial to securing safe passage.

At his , the Arsenal manager was asked about what Sterling has been like since he signed for the club.
And as well as complimenting his attitude, Arteta also hinted that the four-time Premier League winner would start on Wednesday.
He said: “Very good (how he has been). He has had a few minutes already and tomorrow he has another opportunity.
“He is ready, he is really hungry to add more minutes and impact the team in the way that he can, and hopefully tomorrow we can see that.”
Premier League clubs complain about Arsenal to the PGMOL
Of course, the tie against Bolton will also be a nice distraction from the constant chat about Arsenal’s ‘dark arts’ after the Manchester City draw.
Premier League sides have been raising concerns to the PGMOL about Arsenal since last season, not content with how Arteta’s side are pushing the limits.
It would be a surprise if Arsenal needed to lean on such tactics against Bolton – they’ll be hopeful of a more comfortable match.
But either way, neither Arteta or his Arsenal players will be listening to much of the fall out from the weekend.
If Arsenal are getting under Man City’s skin and the rest of the league, well they must be doing something right.
