Mikel Arteta says £93k-a-week Arsenal star has ‘progressed the right way’ at N5

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Gunners defender Ben White ahead of his 100th appearance for the club.

The Arsenal boss, speaking to the Gunners media team ahead of the Newcastle match, believes White has “progressed the right way” at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta lauded White for how he overcame a tricky start at Arsenal and showed great mental strength to become a key player for the Gunners.

The 26-year-old joined Arsenal from Brighton in 2021, the Gunners paying £50million for the defender’s services.

White struggled on his debut in a 2-0 loss to Brentford and received criticism, but he has kicked on since then.

The £93,000-a-week ace () has become a key player for Arsenal at both centre-back and right-back, much to the delight of his manager.

“I think he’s progressed in the right way in the last few years,” Arteta told the Arsenal media team.

“He had a little bit of a difficult start, which is normal because it was a big jump with different expectations.

“He started to play as well in certain different positions, but I think he’s shown a lot of determination and courage to overcome that.

“I think he has a big personality, I think he copes with pressure really well, he has a lot of quality, he gives us different positions and he’s been a key player for us.”

White key for Arsenal

It’s great to see White doing so well at Arsenal and living up to the potential he showed at Brighton and on loan at Leeds.

His talent, attitude and versatility have all been key to Arsenal’s improvements over the past two years, leaving their banter era and becoming Premier League title contenders.
