Mikel Arteta raves about £6m Arsenal player who was on a ‘different level’ in win over Shakhtar in the Champions League
Arsenal were able to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk.
However, the result may not have completely inspired some of the Arsenal fan base ahead of their clash on the weekend against Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta‘s side were able to seal all three points against the Ukrainian outfit but the only goal of the game came through a Shakhtar player converting into his own net.
Coming out of the game at the Emirates, Arsenal now have some further injury concerns with Riccardo Calafiori suffering a knee issue.
But there was one player who Arteta wanted to hand special praise to for his performance in the European victory.

Mikel Arteta wowed by £6m Arsenal player vs Shakhtar
Arsenal certainly had their chances to extend their lead but Leandro Trossard was unable to convert from the penalty spot to double the advantage.
With injuries in mind, the mood around Arsenal may well have taken a real blow over the last two games as far as the fans are concerned.
The Gunners now look to be heading into the game against Liverpool without Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Riccardo Calafiori.
However, Arsenal will have Gabriel Martinelli available and he was the player who really impressed Arteta on Tuesday night in north London.
“He looked really sharp, really fresh as well. Fresher than anybody on the pitch because he could not start against Bournemouth and you could tell that was different to the rest,” Arteta said.
“He had another gear, he had another level of threat and he state the game really well. He had a great performance for us tonight.”
Gabriel Martinelli performance vs Shakhtar in numbers
There is no denying it, it had been a slow start to the season for the Brazilian winger who has now got off the mark in the Premier League.
Martinelli went the opening four games without providing a goal contribution but he now has two goals and two assists to his name in the league.
And although he was unable to provide in front of goal on Tuesday night, it was a performance which showed the quality he does possess.
- 90 minutes played
- 46 touches
- 5 key passes
- 1 big chance created
- 1x hit woodwork
- 4/5 ground duels won
- 3/4 aerial duels won
With Saka a doubt for the weekend’s game against Liverpool, Arsenal will be looking for a similar display from their £6m Brazilian.
