Mikel Arteta now admits £45m Arsenal player picked up an injury tonight

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury against Sevilla tonight.

Jesus starred for Arsenal on Tuesday night as he helped them to a 2-1 win in Seville.

The 26-year-old produced an exceptional assist in the first half as Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring right before halftime.

He then doubled Arsenal’s advantage in right at the start of the second half with a superb finish after cutting in from the left-hand side.

But the Brazil star was forced off later in the game as he was replaced by Eddie Nketiah after clutching his hamstring.

And after the striker limped off the pitch tonight, Mikel Arteta has admitted that he’s picked up an injury.

Arteta admits Jesus is injured

Speaking to , Arteta was asked whether Jesus was taken off simply as a precaution.

“No,” the Arsenal boss responded. “He felt something in his hamstring. So, let’s see.”

“He straight away asked to be subbed which is not good news as Gabi isn’t a player who does that at all,” Arteta added. “So we have to wait and see in the next few days.”

Jesus missed the start of the campaign after picking up an injury over the summer and it would be a huge blow if Arsenal were to lose him once again.

The man hasn’t been at his lethal best in front of goal this season but he remains such an integral part of Arteta’s side.

Indeed, the forward looked back to his best tonight as well and it was a real shame to see him limp off after such an encouraging display.

Nketiah has proven he can step up in Jesus’ absence but there is a noticeable drop-off in quality without the Brazil star in the side.

Arsenal will certainly be hoping for some good news over the coming days as they face a hectic schedule over the coming weeks.
