Mikel Arteta issues immediate response when asked whether Viktor Gyokeres will play in Arsenal’s next game

Mikel Arteta has responded to a reporter when asked whether Viktor Gyokeres would be joining up with the Arsenal squad for their next pre-season game in Singapore.

Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga have all joined Arsenal over the past few weeks. Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera are also expected to link up with Arsenal soon.

Indeed, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands both players should be available by this weekend. However, the Swede is the undeniable talking point.

Mikel Arteta was asked about Gyokeres’ whereabouts after Arsenal’s friendly encounter with AC Milan in Singapore, and he provided an immediate response.

Mikel Arteta unwilling to answer Viktor Gyokeres question

Arteta’s press conference was featured on Hayters TV, and a reporter asked him: “Will Singapore fans expect to see a certain Viktor Gyokeres in the next game?”

The Arsenal manager replied: “You know that I’m not going to speak about certain players that are not with us yet.”

The Arsenal also carried similar quotes – but leading into the answer, it reads: ‘On potentially seeing new arrivals on the tour.’

Ever elusive for the Spaniard, it is certainly intriguing that the Gunners’ official site left out the name of Gyokeres, contrary to what the reporter said.

What Jose Mourinho has said about Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal

Should Gyokeres indeed join Arsenal – and it’s looking more like a case of when rather than if – it will have most of the football world talking.

Gyokeres is one of the best and most in-form strikers at present, and he would be joining a team eager to win the Premier League title and Champions League.

Jose Mourinho has already given his verdict on Gyokeres, and it should excite Arsenal fans.

“Gyokeres is a great player, I have no doubt about that,” he told Canal 11 in an interview that’s set to be aired on Wednesday (July 23, 9:00 pm), as translated by A Bola.

“Now, Sporting had a way of playing largely around him or adapted to him; I don’t know what Hugo Viana and Ruben Amorim’s initial thinking was.

“But he’s a player with great potential; it’s clear that in England he’ll play against stronger teams, better players.”
