Mikel Arteta hints he could play Arsenal player with just two Premier League starts vs Porto next week
Mikel Arteta has hinted that Fabio Vieira could play for Arsenal against Porto in the UEFA Champions League next week.
The 41-year-old made the comments when speaking in his press conference earlier on Friday.
So, what did Mikel Arteta say about Arsenal No.21 Fabio Vieira? Let’s take a look…
Mikel Arteta hints Fabio Vieira could play for Arsenal against Porto
Well, it has been a quiet 2023/24 campaign for the Portugal U21 international.
Vieira has only managed to make Premier League starts due to competition for places and a serious groin injury, which has caused him to miss the last 11 league games.
Now – however – the man from Santa Maria da Feira could make his return next week.
Arteta is by Arsenal’s official website as saying: “He’s very close. He’s been training already for a few days with the team, so I think it’s very close. He’ll be back probably faster than we expected and he’s in a good place. There is a chance (he could play) – yes.”

Vieira has made appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals while also providing four assists.
Fabio Vieira must impress
The jury remains out on Vieira since his move from Porto in June 2022 – despite flashes of the midfielder’s obvious talent.
In appearances for Arsenal, the 23-year-old has only scored three goals and provided ten assists, with Arteta presumably expecting more from a £34m player.
Now – according to – Vieira is at risk of being sold this summer, so the attacking midfielder needs to impress in the second half of this season if he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

That same story mentions Emile Smith Rowe may also be sacrificed, so it could be a case of the two attacking midfielders fighting for their futures between now and the end of the campaign.
Hopefully, that pushes both of them to perform impressively, rather than having a negative impact.
