Mikel Arteta has kept ‘superb’ Arsenal 22-year-old in first-team training, he’s yet to make debut

Mikel Arteta has kept Arsenal youngster Matt Smith in first-team training ahead of their Europa League clash tonight – but he’s yet to make his debut for the club yet.

Arteta was putting his Arsenal squad through their paces yesterday ahead of their clash against Bodo/Glimt this evening.

Arsenal are coming off the back of a massive win over their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Arteta could be looking to rotate his squad tonight as the Gunners face a huge clash against Liverpool on Sunday, with reporting that Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos are set to start.

And there could be opportunities for other youngsters this evening, including the ‘superb’ Smith.

Smith is yet to make his first-team debut for Arsenal but has been spotted training with the senior team already this season.

The youngster has spent time on loan at Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and most recently Doncaster Rovers. The midfield talent has been playing for the Arsenal U21 side in the Premier League 2 this season.

The Arsenal academy product has registered one assist in five appearances for the Gunners youth side. But he will be hoping that he can get a chance to impress Arteta in the upcoming Europa League fixtures.

Smith has clearly been training with the first-team this season and Arteta will be looking to rotate his side during a packed fixture schedule over the coming weeks.
