Mikel Arteta has been left so impressed by ‘unbelievable’ £21m Arsenal player following Aston Villa win
Arsenal have got their 2024/25 campaign off to the perfect start with the victory over Aston Villa on Saturday seeing the Gunners rack up maximum points.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted to have seen his side pick up points in a fixture which they struggled in massively last season.
It has not been the busiest of summer transfer windows for Arsenal who have only brought in one player so far.
There is the expectation for more to following Mikel Merino having now undergone his Arsenal medical over recent hours.
The Gunners certainly had to work for the three points on Saturday at Villa Park with Arteta having to rely on some help coming from his bench.
And the Spaniard has admitted there is one player who really impressed him against Unai Emery’s side, in particular.

Mikel Arteta says there’s something about Leandro Trossard that’s just ‘unbelievable’
With the game heading towards a goalless draw, Arteta looked to his bench for some inspiration with Leandro Trossard raring to come on.
And the Belgian forward certainly made an impact with his first touch of the ball seeing him open the scoring.
Trossard’s muted celebration possibly showed an insight as to his wish to play from the start and Arteta admitted he’d been left so impressed by the 29-year-old.
Speaking to [7:53 pm] following the victory at Villa Park, Arteta waxed lyrical about his Belgian forward who provided the Gunners with the difference.
“Leo has the ability to change the game. His end product is unbelievable,” he said.
“I think he had two shots, two great balls in the box. That could have been another goal or two.”
Leandro Trossard has to start for Arsenal over Gabriel Martinelli
The game was there to be attacked down the left side of the pitch for Arsenal but Gabriel Martinelli was not having a lot of joy.
And that even came after Villa’s starting right-back Matty Cash was withdrawn due to an injury early on in the game.
Martinelli has a lot of talent and he has shown that during his time in north London, but the Brazilian is struggling to show his quality with his last league goal coming all the way back in March.
Last 12 PL games | Gabriel Martinelli | Leandro Trossard |
Goals | 0 | 6 |
Assists | 0 | 0 |
With this mismatch in returns in front of goal, it is no surprise the Trossard feels he should be starting in the Arsenal XI over Marinelli.
Arteta is surely now left with a straightforward decision for the game against Brighton & Hove Albion, Trossard’s former side.
