Mikel Arteta asks Edu to sign ‘special’ player with Arsenal ready to pay big

Arsenal are now ready to pay big money for Barcelona winger Raphinha, with reporting that Mikel Arteta has asked Edu Gaspar to go and sign him.

Arteta enjoyed a brilliant weekend in terms of results on the pitch as the Gunners comfortably beat Tottenham and moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

But the Spaniard missed out on his top target on Sunday as Chelsea wrapped up a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk under Arsenal’s noses.

The Gunners failed to bring in a wide player over the summer as Raphinha made the switch to Barcelona after receiving interest from the north Londoners.

After the Mudryk blow, Arsenal are seemingly rekindling their interest in the Brazilian and the report from Spain claims they are ready to sign him ‘at all costs’ this month.

Arsenal ready to pay big for Raphinha

claims that Arteta is a huge fan of Raphinha and he has asked the club’s sporting directors, including Edu, to land him this month.

The outlet notes that the Gunners have already reached out to the winger’s agent to declare their interest. However, while Raphinha is apparently flattered by the long-standing interest, he is unsure about leaving Camp Nou.

Of course, the Barca star only made the switch to La Liga from Leeds United over the summer but he hasn’t managed to hit the ground running in Catalonia.

It will be difficult for Arsenal to convince him to leave Barca this month. But Arteta’s men are aiming to take advantage of the initial talks by positioning themselves for a possible summer move.

Arsenal’s interest in Raphinha is certainly no secret and it seems that if the opportunity arises, they will make their move once again.

The Brazilian was described as a ‘special’ player during his time at Elland Road but things just haven’t worked out for him so far in Spain.

Xavi has often preferred Ousmane Dembele for the spot on the right-hand side, while Raphinha’s performances on the opposite flank haven’t been up to the same standard.

TBR View: Raphinha deal seems highly unlikely

Raphinha only joined Barcelona a few months back and while he would be a brilliant addition to the Arsenal squad, it seems unlikely that he would be willing to return to England already.

The former Leeds man previously admitted that it has always been his dream to play for the La Liga giants, so it would be a massive surprise for him to give up on this after just six-months at the club.

Arsenal will have to turn to alternative targets after missing out on Mudryk, especially with concerns over their lack of depth out wide.
