Mikel Arteta already needs to override Andrea Berta to secure £25m signing for Arsenal
Since his arrival at the club, it’s already become abundantly clear that Andrea Berta will play a huge role in Arsenal’s summer transfer window.
Berta has arrived at Arsenal to pedal more of the same — the former Atletico Madrid sporting director has ideas of his own and he seems determined to get things right.
Primarily, Berta seems focused on implementing a ‘win now’ approach at Arsenal, and that’s probably appropriate for this stage of Mikel Arteta’s project.
Arteta has all of the foundations in place to win major trophies but he perhaps just lacks one or two final pieces of the jigsaw.
And whilst Berta wants to sign Viktor Gyokeres for Arsenal, there is one move that he’s thought to be on the verge of vetoing at the Emirates Stadium.
Andrea Berta could be making his first mistake at Arsenal
Well before Berta’s arrival, Arsenal were interested in Joan Garcia at Espanyol.
Arsenal made a bid to sign Garcia and they wanted the Spaniard to come in to compete with David Raya for the number one spot.

Of course, Arsenal weren’t able to secure a move in the summer and they instead opted to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth at the last minute.
However, ahead of the summer Arsenal are being linked with Garcia once again, who’s continuing to deliver extraordinary performances in La Liga.
Although, Berta is having doubts about signing Garcia according to reports — the Italian would seemingly prefer to invest those funds elsewhere.
Garcia will cost around £25m this summer according to reports owing to a release clause in his deal.
And Berta might be making a serious error if he does veto a move for the 23-year-old.
Mikel Arteta needs to push for Joan Garcia
Garcia just won his fourth Man of the Match award in the row for Espanyol against Valencia on Tuesday evening.
And whilst some Arsenal fans will feel as if the club don’t need two top goalkeepers — perhaps in a similar vein to Berta, Garcia genuinely has the potential to displace Raya long-term.
Moreover, at the price tag mentioned, Arsenal would be securing one of Europe’s next top goalkeepers for a bargain.
Berta will need all the funds he can get to sign the likes of Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Nico Williams, but Garcia’s potential shouldn’t be ignored.
Arsenal would be in an incredibly difficult spot were Raya to pick up an injury right now, and Garcia would strengthen Arteta’s squad no end.
Arteta needs to push for the signing, one that goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana must be championing himself.
