Middlesbrough fans react on Twitter as Leeds linked with Britt Assombalonga
Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga in the next few days as they finally look to replace the los of Eddie Nketiah – and Boro supporters are willing to see him leave.
Assombalonga, 27, has struggled to gain any kind of rhythm this season with an ankle injury preventing him from playing in Middlesbrough’s last eight Championship games. He has scored six goals in 21 games this season.
Now, Leeds are interested in signing Jonathan Woodgate’s striker, given Middlesbrough boast plenty of options upfront including Ashley Fletcher, Rudy Gestede and Lukas Nmecha.
The Whites need a new striker after Nketiah left Leeds halfway through his season-long loan in January. Arsenal opted to recall the striker due to a lack of game time and Leeds are yet to replace the England Under-21 international.

Indeed, Woodgate’s former side have been linked with Andre Gray of Watford, Che Adams of Southampton and Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle but nothing has come to fruition. The connection between Boro and Leeds, though, is very strong.
That is because Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta worked for Boro before Leeds, while Boro boast many ex-Leeds men. Other than Woodgate and Robbie Keane, Jonny Howson and Adam Clayton all played for Leeds.
Adam Forshaw and Patrick Bamford have both played for Boro, and Middlesbrough fans reacted to the reported news that the two sides could make another deal. Many Boro supporters are desperate for Assombalonga to leave and join Leeds.
