‘What a hero’: Middlesbrough fans revel in performance of Britt Assombalonga

Middlesbrough enhanced their promotion chances yesterday with a solid 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Tony Pulis’ side were the better team or large parts of the contest and kept up the chase on their rivals for a place in the Premier League.

The man signed for £15 million from Nottingham Forest in 2017 nearly left the Riverside Stadium in January.

Bristol City were keen on the striker who had fallen down the pecking order in the North East.

Proven Championship goalscorer

Since the window closed he has netted three goals in four games, with Assombalonga seemingly back in his manager’s plans.

Yesterday was goal number 11 for the campaign for the Boro talisman.

He headed home at the far post following some neat work by strike partner Ashley Fletcher on the right-hand side.

On his day, Assombalonga is one of the most feared marksmen in the Championship.

Wherever he has played during his career he has scored goals and yesterday was his 111th goal in 264 appearances.
