Micky van de Ven was so impressed with £25m Tottenham teammate vs Man United today

Tottenham Hotspur fans will have been so elated to see defender Micky van de Ven return to action against Manchester United today.

It was always expected that Van de Ven would be able to start at Old Trafford, but it may have been a surprise that he was alongside Cristian Romero.

Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice Tottenham pairing has been disrupted for so long, and the manager will be very happy to return to normality.

Of course, there was also one more surprise starter in the side, that of new signing Timo Werner.

The forward was thrown into the starting XI in the absence of Dejan Kulusevski.

And following his assist in the 2-2 draw against United, van de Ven was very impressed with Tottenham’s new man.

Speaking to after the game, van de Ven thought Werner could be an integral player for the remainder of this season.

Van de Ven said: “Yeah, he’s got a lot of pace. I played against him already with Leipzig so I already knew that he had a lot of pace but yeah he can be an important player for us and I think he  showed today with an assist that he can be really important for us.”

Micky van de Ven loved Timo Werner’s Tottenham display against Man United

Of course, many may expect that this is a move that will perfectly suit Werner at Spurs.

Even when leaving Chelsea in the past, it still felt as if the German had unfinished business in England, he’s clearly got so much ability.

Werner can definitely still polish several parts of his game, and Postecoglou really could be the manager to help him along.

As we saw against United today, Tottenham play fast and exciting football – which was made easier by van de Ven’s return.

And given the chances Werner will get whilst Son Heung-min is at the Asian cup, he could really thrive.

It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs did end up signing Werner permanently in the summer, even if we are still early days.

That being said, Gary Neville was left disappointed with one Tottenham player today.
