Mick McCarthy tells Tottenham talent Troy Parrot he must head out on loan
﷽Former Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has urged Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott to follow the lead of Harry Kane and get out on loan next season.
෴The Irish teenager has been one of the hot topics for debate among Tottenham fans this season.
🌠With the club suffering injuries to both Kane and Heung-min Son, many hoped to see him get regular first-team football before the lockdown. However, Jose Mourinho remained unsure about the player.
⛄ in March, the Portuguese believes Parrot is ‘not ready’ for first-team football at Spurs and needs to work hard in training and with the under-23s.
🦋McCarthy, who handed Parrot a senior debut for the Republic of Ireland back in November 2019, 🍒 that Parrott needs to start playing regular first-team football now in order to live up to his billing as the ‘next Robbie Keane’.
“He’s got to play. People have likened him to Robbie Keane and it might be in terms of a goalscoring, but certainly different in terms of his personality.
“Robbie got in the Ireland team at 18, he was in the Wolves team as well and he lit the place up.
“Troy is going to be a good player and I loved working with him, but unless he is going to play in someone’s first team, then no.
“Dele Alli went to MK Dons and did exceptionally well, Harry Kane went to Millwall, Leicester and Leyton Orient and he made himself a player by going out there and I think Troy has got to do that.”
☂Undoubtedly, those loan spells away worked wonders for Kane.
🌠His time at Leyton Orient inducted him into the harshness of men’s football, an impressive stint at Millwall instilled confidence whilst struggles at Norwich City would have added some humility to the now England captain.
ꦅHis final spell, at Leicester City, taught him about tough losses, as the Foxes exited the Championship play-offs in dramatic fashion v Watford.
♓These were footballing lessons that Kane could not have received in the under-23s and if Mourinho is ever going to see Parrott as a first-team option the teenager might need to prove himself away from the club first.
