Mick McCarthy happy that James McCarthy got his transfer away from Everton
Everton said goodbye to James McCarthy this summer, as the Irishman left for Crystal Palace. the 28-year-old made the £8 million move just before deadline day and will be hoping to get his career back on track at Selhurst Park.
Everton fans were, of course, sad to say goodbye to a player who always gave his best for the club, but certainly understood why he was moved on.

One man who is pleased that McCarthy got his move is Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy. after watching the midfielder play 90 minutes for the Crystal Palace under-23s, the Ireland boss stated his joy at seeing the former Everton star back in action.
“It was good just to see James out there for 90 minutes on a football pitch.
“James has had a terrible time with injury so getting game time now is vital for him. What was important was that he played. I know one of the reasons James wanted to move from Everton was to get more football after playing so little last season following his injury.”
TBR’s View
Everton fans are undoubtedly fond of McCarthy but his injury record in recent years had seen him slip down the pecking order at Goodison Park.
With the permanent arrival of Andre Gomes as well as Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Fabian Delph’s signature, regular football always seemed unlikely for McCarthy at Everton this season.
So no fans on Merseyside are likely to begrudge any future international success for the midfielder now he is likely to be back to playing regular football.
