Michael Stewart says Celtic should have spent £5m to sign 24-year-old striker last month
Another weekend and another two dropped points for Celtic in the race to the Scottish Premiership title.
The 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Saturday was the fourteenth point Brendan Rodgers‘ side have dropped this season and it has allowed Rangers to get a foothold in the title race.
The team’s poor form put a sharp focus on the club’s transfer business in January and why the club didn’t spend much of the £70m sitting in their bank account.
But there is one singing that Celtic didn’t make that has left Michael Stewart completely baffled. The BBC pundit says Celtic should have ‘been brave’ and spent £5m in getting North Macedonian striker, Bojan Miovski in January.
Stewart said [], “The transfer business that they’ve done in January doesn’t suggest that they’ve really thrown everything at it that they perhaps, to use Brendan Rodgers’ own words, they’ve not been as brave as they could have been.
“Lee [Miller] has just spoken about Bojan Miovski. Bojan Miovski would walk into the Celtic squad and be a great addition as an option for them.
“And you’re telling me that Celtic couldn’t have gone and spent £5m for example, even £5m, and Aberdeen would find it incredibly difficult to say no to £5m.
“And yet, they haven’t and for what reason, I don’t know.”
The real reason why Celtic didn’t buy Bojan Miovski
There is no doubt the Aberdeen striker is a quality player. Second top of the SPFL goalscoring charts on 10 goals this season, Miovski is two ahead of Matt O’Riley and four in front of Kyogo Furuhashi. []

However, as TBR Celtic told yesterday, the fee that Aberdeen were looking to get from the Parkhead was almost double what Stewart says Celtic should have paid for him.
Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph said that there was a ‘Celtic tax’ on Miovski and The Dons would have been looking for £8m-£9m for the 24-year-old striker.
With the best will in the world, Celtic simply won’t pay that kind of money for a striker in the Scottish Premiership who is going to be second choice behind Kyogo.
Contracted to 2026, the ball is in Aberdeen’s court here and whilst their demands remain so high, it looks like Miovski won’t be a Celtic player any time soon.
