Michael Stewart names Celtic player he sees ‘blossoming’, just 127 minutes played for Bhoys so far

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull should be given more game time by Neil Lennon to enable him to blossom, according to Michael Stewart.

The Hoops signed the 21-year-old in August, a year after his move to Parkhead was called off, and to date, he has made five appearances under Lennon.

However, Turnbull has only started one game for Celtic, and has clocked up just in the green and white hoops.

Stewart, writing in the believes Lennon should bench Scott Brown more often, with Callum McGregor, Nir Bitton, Olivier Ntcham and Ismaila Soro all able to play a deeper role.

“Then you have David Turnbull, who’s waiting patiently for a decent run in the Celtic team after his £3.25million move,” added the former Hibs and Hearts ace.

“Brown playing 90 minutes three times a week while other midfielders sit on the bench isn’t helping anyone.

“The likes of Turnbull need space and time to develop and you can see him stepping in and really blossoming.”

Turnbull came through the ranks at Motherwell, making his debut back in February 2018, and made 41 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.

Celtic were meant to sign Turnbull a year ago, but a £3.25million deal to Parkhead fell through due to a knee concern spotted during his medical.

The midfielder then underwent months of rehabilitation following surgery, but was eased back into action in February.

TBR View:

Turnbull was a cut above at Motherwell, hence Celtic moving for him and biding their time following his injury last year, but sadly he’s struggled for game time.

With the Hoops struggling at the minute, Lennon could do worse than try something new, and given Brown’s form has dropped, he should definitely get some rest from first-team action now and then.
