Michael Owen delivers verdict as Daniel Levy removes Nuno Espirito Santo as Tottenham manager

Michael Owen has reacted on Twitter after Daniel Levy chose to sack Nuno Espirito Santo as Tottenham manager – and Owen was criticial.

Nuno, 47, leaves after just four months in charge of Tottenham. The Portuguese gaffer has only won five of his 10 Premier League matches.

The other five have resulted in defeats, losing to Manchester United 3-0 on the weekend – a dismal result. It has seen Levy take immediate action.

Nuno, who was way down the shortlist to come in for Jose Mourinho in the summer, has gone. Antonio Conte looks as if he will be the replacement.

Owen, though, was critical of Levy in his verdict. He has labelled the decisions to bring in Nuno and Mourinho as “baffling”, blaming Levy.

Owen on Levy sacking Nuno: Is Conte the man to save Tottenham?

Some have suggested that Conte – who has won the Premier League and Serie A with Chelsea and Inter – is another example of a defensive coach.

But that is incorrect. While Mourinho and Nuno are filed under pragmatic, Conte has his own style. Many will remember his 3-4-3 at Chelsea.

It is a completely different style of play, one that gives freedom to the wing-backs and front three. Two number 10’s behind the striker.

So, is he the man to save Tottenham? He certainly has the pedigree and calibre to do so. But he will need backing from Daniel Levy, going forward.
