‘Lots of similarities’: Michael Owen says one PL manager is like Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

It’s quite the compliment to be compared to Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, but that’s the comparison that’s been made when it comes to Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Southampton continued on their fine run of form last night as they saw off Norwich City in the Premier League. Che Adams got the ball rolling, before a late stunner from Oriel Romeu ensured all three points for the Saints.

Hasenhuttl has had some testing times and good times while being Southampton manager. But both he and the club seem to be reaping the rewards of patience and sticking to a plan at the moment. And according to Michael Owen, it’s all very similar to what Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool.

“I think it starts from the manager. I think the manager, rather like at Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp, I see lots of similarities (with Hasenhuttl),” Owen told .

“It looks like he’s galvanised the whole club. Everyone is together and players buy into a style. And even when he’s had some bad, bad results, he’s come back fighting. He’s doing a miraculous job.”

You can see it when you watch the games, but both Klopp and Hasenhuttl seem to have every player in the squad firmly on board. It is so important to success, and Owen makes a great point here.

Klopp obviously gets the plaudits and limelight at Liverpool just because of their sheer reach and size. But Hasenhuttl deserves his own credit too. The job he’s doing at St Mary’s is excellent and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get a big move elsewhere at some point.
