Michael O’Neill ruing lack of first-team football before and after Leeds United exit for Bailey Peacock-Farrell
Northern Ireland international boss Michael O’Neill has been discussing what is needed for Burnley and former Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The goalkeeper left Leeds United in the summer, heading to Premier League club Burnley. Leeds sold the stopper for a fee in the region of £3 million.
It came after he lost his first-team place at Elland Road to former Real Madrid stopper Kiko Casilla. But the move to Burnley has not yet proved anymore fruitful, as he is behind England-capped pair Nick Pope and Joe Hart in the pecking order.
O’Neill however still considers him his first-choice goalie at international level. , he is hopeful that the Leeds academy graduate can force himself into the first-team picture in the near future at Turf Moor.
“He played very well. He’s a young goalkeeper with not a lot of experience either at international level or in first-team football. He’s not had any first-team minutes for six months so I was pleased with him…
“He’s going to be a big goalkeeper going forward and hopefully we see him playing first-team football soon. It’s difficult to come in and play games of this nature consistently when you’re not playing first-team football.”
TBR’s View
Leeds fans were not so much surprised to hear that Peacock-Farrell had left the club in the summer as they were taken aback at his chosen location.
Burnley have two high-calibre stoppers ahead of him and the Thorp Arch graduate faces a tougher fight for first-team football with the Clarets then he would have at Leeds as back-up to Casilla.
Hopefully, it does not impact negatively on his international prowess.
