Michael Dawson says he feels sorry for Tottenham player signed by Jose Mourinho

Michael Dawson has told BBC Radio 5 Live – – that he feels sorry for Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon as the Wales international continues to play alongside Davinson Sanchez at centre-back.

Signed last summer from Swansea City for a fee of £18million (), Rodon has only been used times by Mourinho so far this season – but he has started the last two Premier League games against Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Helping Spurs keep a clean sheet against Villa, Rodon partnered Sanchez against Newcastle on Sunday but the Colombian was at fault for Newcastle’s first goal – and hardly did much to prevent Newcastle’s late equaliser.

Spurs icon Dawson says he feels sympathy towards Rodon, stating that the Welshman needs a more-experienced head next to him – but instead, he has been left with the error-prone Sanchez who was at fault once again during Sunday’s 2-2 draw.

“Consistency is key, you form relationships as a central pairing and I feel for Joe Rodon a little bit,” he said, . “He is a young player who has come from the Championship and he is looking for a senior head.”

TBR’s view – Rodon can be a long-term solution to Tottenham’s issues

But they need a big-name signing that is in the prime of his career to go alongside him. They need a defender like Milan Skriniar at Inter Milan who was linked so strongly with the North London side last summer.

Him, alongside Rodon, would finally solve Tottenham’s defensive issues. Rodon could maximise his potential alongside a player that would boost any European side. Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez simply are not good enough.
