Michael Dawson names two Tottenham defenders he wants to start

Michael Dawson has urged Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho to stick with young duo Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga in the starting XI after the international break.

Dawson feels that the internationals came at the worst time for the two defenders, who had both started in the previous 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Rodon, 23, impressed at centre-back for Spurs, and he’s currently away with Wales’ national team.

Meanwhile, versatile 21-year-old Tanganga dropped in at right-back against Villa despite being a centre-back by trade, and looked really comfortable.

Neither have been regular starters in the side this season, albeit they’ve been full senior members of the squad, but have massive potential.

Ex-Spurs defender Dawson has said he’d like both to get a run in the XI.

“The internationals probably came at the wrong time for them. Hopefully when the games come back again they’ll stick in,” Dawson told .

TBR’s View:

If Mourinho had found some consistency in the backline this season, there is every chance they would be enjoying a much better time.

A constant change of centre-back partnerships can’t be helpful to anyone, so Mourinho needs to try find a backline he can start to trust.

Rodon looks an old fashioned aggressive defender that will only get better with more experience, and perhaps now is the time to start him more often.

Meanwhile, Tanganga is a centre-back by trade, but if he can start games regularly at full-back it would be huge for his progress.
